Kwan Um Zen in The Peak District

The Peak Zen Group invites you to experience the practice of Zen meditation in a supportive, warm-hearted environment where you can learn the basic Zen practice techniques and discover how this ancient tradition can help you and the world.

The Kwan Um School is a worldwide Zen tradition now appearing in the Derwent Valley of Derbyshire.  Members of The Peak Zen Group practice regularly near Matlock Bath and hold retreats, Dharma talks and workshops from time to time.  The beautiful practice location is within a short walk of Matlock Bath station and bus stops, so easily reached from Matlock, Cromford, Belper, Duffield and Derby.  For weekend retreats, people also come from Nottingham, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Buxton, Macclesfield, Congleton, Ashbourne and Manchester without difficulty.

We practice sitting and walking meditation and also use chanting, bowing, eating and working together, all as Zen practices in the Kwan Um tradition. Teaching follows the direct, simple style of Zen Master Seung Sahn, the Korean Zen Master who founded our school.

See below and contact us directly for details of coming events, where we are meeting and practicing together, and what activities are planned.
